The following contents of this article contains some form of sexual representation that maybe offensive to some. If you are not comfortable talking or reading about sexy anime characters with the situations of stimulating mild sexual innuendo then turn back now but if you like then proceed. We’re going to talk about the Japanese term ecchi. Ecchi is actually a slang word in Japanese which translates into words defined as something perverted, naughty, sexy or dirty. Ecchi is commonly found in certain manga, anime and videogame media. The live action series are also included but not as much seeing as the animated depictions are easier to get away with rather than real life ecchi depictions.
Ecchi appears in most anime series as sort of a sub-genre while others sport it as a main or at least the dominant genre mixed with another one. Ecchi’s purpose is to add a certain distinction and perversion into a series without going into the realm of porn or x rated materials. In a sense ecchi is acceptable because you don’t see anything too inappropriate but there are those that are offended by this which is natural of course but common in Japan. There are a lot of times and places where ecchi appears but there are those that are considered to be the staples of ecchi presence.
One of the more common ecchi presences is the “pantsu” or in English means panties. There are more than enough anime series that have at least one episode showing a girl in their panties. The most common depiction of this is through upskirts or simple wardrobe changing. The other presence is seen through prominent fan service segments. There’s always that female character in a series that people would just want to see sport out a sexy outfit or see her do something sexy. This is how fan service is very effective and what’s tricky about this is that you only get it for less than a minute.
Another way that ecchi is presented is through actual acts or simulations of sexual activities not pertaining or visualizing actual intercourse. These can be limited to teasing, groping or fondling and no kissing is not considered as ecchi at least for some of course. Then finally, there are actually anime series that have the ecchi as a dominant genre mixed with either harem or comedy. These are usually effective and the presence of ecchi in a lot of episodes wouldn’t be that surprising. In total, ecchi isn’t something that should be viewed as something so lewd or unacceptable. It is through how it is implemented which makes ecchi so effective or insulting but hey it’s never a bad thing to have it at least once or twice.
