Let’s continue with our look into the different characters of the Samurai Sentai Shinkenger series.
Ryunosuke Ikenami (Shinken Blue)
Ryunosuke aspires to be a kabuki actor. Sadly his auditions never go so well and he never gets the role he wants. His dreams of stardom had to stop because Takeru recruits him to be one of the Shinkengers. Ryunosuke doesn’t decline for one second as his parents once served the house of Shiba. Ryunosuke is extremely loyal to Takeru and is ready to lay down his life. He also punishes himself even in public if he makes a mistake towards Takeru where the latter would usually stop his self-inflicting acts. Ryunosuke is also known as the Samurai of Water.
Mako was left in the care of her grandmother in Hawaii when she was young. Her grandmother did teach her in the ways of Bushido which is why Mako is proficient in samurai sword fighting. She comes back to Japan and works at a kindergarten because she loves kids. She was then recruited by Takeru to become a Shinkenger wherein she uses her ideals and her knowledge of Bushido. She also dreams to be a good wife and mother but she has ways to go. Her cooking is one problem though as the others can’t seem to eat it but she’s trying. She is also known as the Samurai of Sky.
Chiaki lost his mother when he was young which is why his father raised him alone. His father taught him in the ways of martial arts making Chiaki at least capable in some form. He still does lack the skill to be a master fighter. He is a bit lazy and rebellious as he would constantly talk back to Takeru. The only reason he accepted the role of being a Shinkenger was that he thought it would be cool to save people. He does respect Takeru later on and he becomes the team’s tactician. Despite his lack of physical abilities he makes up for it with his mind. He is also known as the Samurai of Wood.
Kotoha Hanaori (Shinken Yellow)
Kotoha idolized her older sister Mitsuba who was supposed to be Shinken Yellow. Mitsuba fell ill which is why Kotoha had to step up and become Shinken Yellow. Despite her clumsiness and slight inexperience when it comes to fighting, Takeru welcomes her as she has room to grow. She considers herself to be weak and useless when it comes to battle. This is why she constantly trains her fighting style. She also looks up to Mako somewhat like an older sister and aspires to be just like her minus the ability to cook that is.
